What is functional medicine?
Functional Medicine is the diagnosis and treatment of various disorders utilizing holistic means. Diagnosis always involves in-depth history, thorough physical examination, and lab test work up. Based on examination findings, treatment will involve one or both of the following:
- lifestyle changes including changes to diet and exercise habits
- recommendation of various supplements that will be determined based on exam and lab findings
The overarching goal of functional medicine is to achieve overall long-term health. The goal with examination and treatment is to find the root cause of the patients issues and to treat that, rather than the symptoms that it may be causing.
How much does the treatment cost?
Treatment costs vary from patient to patient based on the complexity of the issue and the number of visits, supplementation, and labs that might be necessary to solve the complaint. Our initial trial of care includes 6 weeks of care. In most cases, this will provide us with enough time to make changes and see progress. If no progress is made, there is little time wasted and we will modify care and try a different approach. For the initial visit, we schedule for 2 hours and only charge for the time that we use. We then schedule 2 follow ups spaced 2 weeks apart. Our price is $252/hour to see Dr. Tim and $200/hour to see Dr. Cathy. Labs and supplements have varying costs that can only be determined following thorough examination. Do we accept insurance?
The short answer is no, we don’t accept insurance. The long answer is that we don’t accept insurance because a lot of what we do typically won’t be reimbursed by insurance. If we accepted it, insurance would dictate our care plan. We take pride in the quality of our care and we direct it accordingly to each patient’s needs. We are a cash practice, so if you would like to see if your insurance will reimburse you following treatment, we can provide you a superbill to submit to your insurance. We do, however, accept HSA and FSA.
How long do treatment plans last?
Treatment plans are heavily dependent on the type of condition that a patient comes in for. Somebody might have something that is a quick fix that may only take 2 or 3 visits. Others might need more. Our initial care plan is 6 weeks. That gives us enough time to see if we are moving in the right direction, or if we need to pivot care and try something else. We recommend many nutritional and lifestyle changes that play a big role in treatment outcomes. A lot of the results stem from patient compliance with recommendations on dietary, exercise, and day to day habit changes. What type of treatment do we do?
Treatment consists of manual therapy, supplementation, dietary changes, and exercise recommendations. In-depth history, manual muscle tests, and lab results play into what recommendations might be.
