Deep Tissue Massage: Targeting the Roots of Pain

If you carry chronic tension or persistent pain, a Deep Tissue massage may offer deeper relief than gentler modalities.

What Makes Deep Tissue Unique?

Unlike Swedish massage, deep tissue work focuses on the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. The therapist uses slower, firmer strokes to break up adhesions — tight bands of tissue that can contribute to pain and limited mobility.

Potential Benefits

Deep tissue massage is often used to help with:

  • Chronic muscle tightness and pain
  • Repetitive strain injuries
  • Improved flexibility and range of motion
  • Recovery from major exercise or physical work
The pressure helps with circulation and can reduce chronic tension deeper than surface-level massage.

What to Expect

Some people find deep tissue massage more intense (and sometimes slightly uncomfortable) than gentler styles. However, soreness afterward is normal and should fade within a day or so. As with any therapeutic treatment, communicate with your therapist about your comfort and goals.

Who It’s For

This type of massage is best for people with established muscle issues or specific areas of pain — for example, tight shoulders from long hours of desk work or low back tenderness from lifting or repetitive motion. As always, check with your healthcare provider if you have any underlying health conditions before scheduling a session.
